It's been a long time since i've posted in here... University.. Moving from a home to another.. etc... I did not have much time for you music lovers. So I would like to thank you first of all for those positive comments which I do really appreciate... The blog is not dead and posts will follow! Now as for the music:

Pulsar - Memory Ashes (2007)

This is a great 2007 release of an old floydian french band! Remember them? They made some great records back in the 70's (specially the well known "Halloween" album). All I can say today is that they are still as great! Their sound is logically more "new age" oriented, they kept that old exciting gilmourish guitar licks-sound, you may hear the maturity of an majestic symphonic space band, as they kept all of the sound-components which made us love them...Get this!

Conrad Schnitzler - Rot (1973)

Electronics, weird electronic collages, synthetic bizzareries, popping, bopping, burping, and all kind of strange electronic prehistoric sounds like if a thousand of those first generation mobile phones where gathered to ring together added to my big brother's "Yard's Revenge" atari 2600 video game sounds. In other words this is quite unbearable and unesthetic music, as open minded as I can get, I can't really force myself into appreciating such an esquisite album, even considering and admitting it's historical importance and having a lot of interest in such a great scene as the German one, this is still a difficult one.Now don't fool me, krautrock and the german scene in general get's me really into the skin and I generally always get my mind blowed when confronted to such great mind music, if you are into german vintage electronic progressive, I would rather recommend Kluster, Cluster, Limbus, Liliental, or some other Moebius works instead of this one ;-) me @ progarchives

Xhol Caravan - Altena 1969 (1969)

This a very nice live release of one of the most influencal german band's in the 70's and in what would later be called Krautrock. Xhol Caravan who called themselves Soul Caravan earlier plays a nice mix of jazz fusion, psychedelic rock, blues with some ethnic elements. While it tends to be more jazzy than kraut in general, the music is nonethless excellent and could be very enjoyable to any prog fan who's open enough to appreciate kraut bizzarreries..Yes, this is a bizzarrerie indeed, xhol caravan aren't easy listenning at all and this live record lacks a bit in sound quality (specially on the vocals) but it doesn't bother a lot since the vocals aren't dominating on the whole record. The music itself is very great and the musicians are excellent virtuoso concerning their instruments, in xhol caravan's sound, one would recognize some EMBRYO and a strong COLTRANE influence concerning the saxophonist, as a matter of fact one of the highlight of this album is "Olé" a John Coltrane cover wich sounds a lot like a samba rythm and is really enjoyable and nicely interpreted.The three following tracks are some short Xhol Caravan original compositions which are quite chaotic and avant-garde in the jazz sound, these three tracks reminds me a lot of the GURU GURU early sound, mixing free-jazz elements to psychedelic music.. Note that the singer's voice here is quite similar to the Guru Guru singer on their "Essen 1970" live record release.The final track is another highlight of the album, "Freedom Opera" is a whole chaotic free-form fusion improvisation (featuring another drum solo) clocking at 56 minutes, while not as accessible and as easy to appreciate as the previous track this will certainly, besides the mediocre sound quality, grow in you. This is finally not only an relatively enjoyable music record, but it has it's historical importance concerning the german scene of the 70's that is very interessant for those who enjoy "krautrock", other's will need some introduction to the german scene before being able to enjoy this seriously.. me @ progarchives

Dreamworld - On Flight To The Light (1980)

A nice work featuring Klaus and Florian Fichter from the famous Yatha Sidhra band, no exotic elements here, no congas or bongos, only a fine work of Gilmour-like guitar licks, organ and drums, artsy proggy (krauty?) with a discernable eighties sound (especially the drums), anyway this is still a very nice listen recommended for those who want to complete their kraut collection.

Georges Brassens - Le Pornographe (1961)

An old french unconventional folk artist with very funny, sad, happy, contestative lyrics.. I do really like this.. Le pornographe (The pornograph) is an album with few songs he wrote between 1958 and 1961, this isn't essential at all if you can't understand french..

Recommended for those who can understand french!

Agitation Free - The River Of Return (1999)

The band members of agitation free gathered together for a birthday and decided to release this last album almost 30 years after the gold age... They can still play very well, unfortunately the album is not essential since it doesn't feature their real creativeness, the production is fine unfortunately i can't stand this digital drum sound, anyway this is a nice album for those who are already introduced to agitation free and those who wants to complete their collection..

Floh de Cologne - Fliessbandbaby's Beat-Show (1970)

Cabaret rock at its best! We all know this contestative left wing german band, this album has been recorded on 1970 before their Profitgeier's sessions, I can't speak german very well, but this is real floh de cologne, talking about Arbeit (work), Gesellschaft (Society), Social matters (Social baut something) etc.., this is a kind of small opera rock about fliessbandbaby, which i think is a kid who is ironically introduced by floh de cologne to the western society and its habbits and conventions...

Negative Zone - Negative Zone (2005)

I have always been an 70' psychedelic rock die-hard fan and I never really got used of recent bands..But this is just an amazing new masterpiece, simply the best recording of 2005.. We can hear Pink Floyd, fusion or more symphonic influences with long clean guitar rythmics and solos and organ driven music with some humoristic parts that fits very well with the whole record... The singing and the voices sometimes remind's me Pink Floyd "Obscured By Cloud" record as they are very soft and groovy.There is no particular song as this album is to be heard as single song, in fact it's as long as one LP ( ~45 Min.), 45 Mins of spacey atmosphere rock that will amaze every old 70' space rock fan..

Liliental - Liliental (1978)

A lovely rarity!This was a great surprise since I discovered this record while I was searching to expand my Kraut collection and was often confronted to some disappointing productions. Unfortunately this is was not well distributed and was never released on CD. I hope it will be some day since I enjoy this record more than the usual Cluster/Harmonia ones! Although this was a personnal Moebius and Plank project several prolific acoustic Jazz-rock musicians such as Helmut Hattler, Johannes Pappert (Kraan) were involved. Concerning the music this has the usual Cluster synth electronic feeling with some Neu! reminiscience, but what amazes me is the very nice instrumental work of guitars, acoustic drums and saxophones we can discreetly hear all along the album which leads to a nice mix of electronic and rocking elements, and the overall feeling is quite floating, spacey and .... Melodic!This is Cluster with jazzy elements, highly recommended for german Electronic/Kraut fans!

Ok now some few things for you kraut-freaks

Agitation Free - At The Cliffs Of River Rhine (Live, 1974)

While you could find this show as a low quality Bootleg, this 1974 concert was finally officially released in 1998 by the "Garden Of Delight" label with an overall excellent sound, This is one of the best Psychedelic live recording i've ever heard!Agitation Free used to be one of those krautrock pioneers band who knew that magical recipe that could take you far out beyond the infinite with its majesty and radical psychedelic approach. While none of their Middle Eastern original influence (Those sounds you can hear on the Malesch record) are recognizable here, the "Second" album sound is fully featured and all the track are taken from it except the first improvisationnal track "Through The Moods" where you can hear an incredibl emusic evolution progressing to an excellent psychedelic climax as if the band members were one mind as a whole playing and commanding multiple bodies interconnected between each other..While there is some electronics manipulation here such as in "Dialogue and random" an electronic short experimentation, the electronics don't get the importance they got on their "Last" live release. In fact the band emphases here on the rocking instrumental psychedelic atmospheric side, the guiar playing, as usual is awesome and reminiscent of ASH RA TEMPEL's Manuel Gottshing highly reverbered sound, never falling into bluesy or speedy clichés.Laila is here my favourite piece, a magnificentsong bothly structured and "free", the final track "In the Silence Of The Morning Sunrise" is a very nice calm, mellow and spacy short song that end nicely the whole record. This will remain one of the key cosmic rock albums never recorded in history and deserves their places between the krautrock legends.... Review from me on the progarchives website

GAM - GAM 1976

Now this is a rarity featuring the famous guitar echo hero Gunther Schickert playing with Axel Struck and Michael leske... though it was recorded in 1976 this has only been released on cassette during the eighties, this is a kind of dark obscure cosmic record, the quality is like an average bootleg record, not that good, anyway some of you hardcore kraut fans will like this one, not recommended to the others...

This is guru guru First and Kanguru period! Heavy freak Psychedelic sound!. This record has been circulating around the world for a long time, several version of this show exists though some of them have a very bad quality, this is the best quality record of this show I found on the Internet,I would rate the Quality A+/A, very enjoyable!

Let's start this blog out with the album it is named after!
This is Ziad rahbani, a very known lebanese musician who is actually the son of the famous female singer Fairuz, "bil afrah" is one of his most obscure record and didn't do any commercial success, but I find it amazing!

This is one 30 minute piece long semi-improvised set featuring Joseph Sakr's Oud, Ziad's accordion, and other magnificent oriental instruments played by people who really enjoy it as you may hear them cheering!
